One of island within East Nusa Tenggara that offers many splendid things to do like Alor for world class diving. Rote nowadays has been famous for world class surfing. Its capital is BAA, a seashore city which is declared officially on 27 July 2002. Many houses in Rote still use palm’s leaves for the roof of their houses. Rote is also well known for its traditional
music instrument SASANDO; palm sugar; “Ti’I Langga” Rotenese’s hat; beautiful ikat weaving handicraft; traditional ceremonies and dances. This island also offers various and lovely natural panorama, steppe and forest full of deer. Most beaches surround this regency have white sand and waves that are suitable for relaxing, diving and surfing. Many villages lie on seashore of Rote such as Busalangga, Oelaba, Oelua and Bone where some of their local people still hold traditional ceremonies belong to Animism.
PAPELA is a fishing village situated near Pantai Baru, the port to the east.
Papela is also a diving site for diving mania.
MBUEAIN is white sandy beach close to the gate of Tasilo Bay and the tip of Tongga Cape. It’s an interesting place for surfing and diving.
NUSE ISLAND is a fishing site for those who enjoy fishing.
NDAO is a center of gold and silver handicrafts history in Rote.
NEMBRALA, DELA is real paradise for those who love surfing. The waves are in good condition around July till November. This area is also popular for diving especially from Tongga Cape to Buka Bay.
